About me
I’m writing this letter with a heavy heart and a sincere plea for help. I have been struggling with kidney issues for many years and have been in discussion of needing a kidney transplant. In 2024, I received devastating news following my heart surgery. My blood count dropped so low that I needed a blood transfusion—and unfortunately, the donated blood contained antibodies. These antibodies now limit the available cadaver kidneys that can safely match me. If I receive a cadaver kidney, the risk of rejection is high, and I’ve been told the wait could extend to nearly five years.
Dear future hero,
My name is Bonnie Best. I am a native northeastern Ohioian who lives in Grafton, Ohio. I have been married to the love of my life, Tim, for nearly 43 years. We have three exceptional children: Lauren (Sam), Shelby (Marty), and Steven (Nichole). When I was healthier, I loved to travel and spend summers with my camper in Vermillion and Florida with family and my dogs.
My struggle with chronic kidney disease has worsened considerably, and I’ve now reached end-stage kidney failure. In March, I will be starting dialysis—a treatment that, on average, offers only a five-year lifespan. My doctors have made it clear that my best chance for survival is to receive a kidney from a living donor.
I know this is a BIG ask, and it’s not easy for me to reach out this way. I’ve tried asking friends and family, but so far, no one has been able to help. That’s why I’m extending this plea to you. If you’re willing to consider becoming a living kidney donor, you might save my life and give me a chance to return to a fuller, healthier life.
Please give them my name, Bonnie Best, as the intended recipient. Local medical centers and links are listed below.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering my request. Your generosity could make all the difference - YOU could be the one to save my life.
